«Landscapes are part of my art. The life of paintings, unfortunately, is such that they leave the author and that the landscape takes on its own destiny - naturally. Landscape as a genre of art is interesting to me because in it one can gain complete freedom of expression both in choosing a plot, color solution, a set of compositional components, and in deciding the plane of the canvas. It is very important that the landscape evokes a certain association. In it, you can revive motives from childhood and youth, experience nostalgic feelings, convey the rarest states of nature, sometimes lasting minutes, or even seconds. The main principle is to trust your own feelings more, follow your own path, use your findings, and not look back at the opinions of “experts” and not indulge the tastes of the layman. I think that the landscape reflects the personal character of the author, bears some severity and chastity of nature itself.»
The landscapes of Konstantin Golovin continue the line of the Russian landscape, which originates during the “thaw” of the late 40s and early 50s, when it was the landscape that became the genre that opened up new opportunities for artists, both for previously strictly limited formal searches, and and to express the personal, the intimate through the sense of nature. His work is characterized by a romantic mood close to the Biedermeier with its sense of comfort, a sense of peace and security. The artist prefers images of transitional seasons: autumn or early winter. They have always attracted domestic painters, because in addition to creating a mood consonant with the national character, they made it possible to use the rich possibilities of picturesque effects inherent in their weather. The features of human presence - houses, churches or lonely figures give the depicted nature a special proportion to human existence. The artist's works are fantasy, which is especially emphasized by the original coloring and unusual lighting effects, obviously, they reflect his desire to see idyllic moods in the world around him. K. Golovin avoids depicting specific places, preferring classical compositional solutions, following in this a sense of inner harmony. Although the author sometimes demonstrates a certain dryness in technique, his work always remains warmed by a lyrical feeling.
