Veshchev Pavel - Painter's biography
Pavel is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1997. Graphic artist and icon painter. Since 1987 he has worked in the field of contemporary art and participated in more than 200 group exhibitions and competitions and 8 personal ones, which took place in 8 countries of the world, was awarded various prizes and awards. From 1994 to 2016, he worked as an altar boy and reader in various churches in St. Petersburg and the Vladimir dioceses. In his work, he uses the achievements of the icon painters of Byzantium and Russia. For about 20 years now he has been engaged in icon painting in the field of temple art with the blessing of the Abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery Geronda Ephraim (Kutsu) and Metropolitan of Vladimir and Suzdal Evlogy (Smirnov). He founded the Nika icon painting workshop in the Vladimir region. Collaborates with the charitable foundation "Athos Offering" and performs icon painting of any complexity, both for parishes and for individuals.
«All the icons in our workshop were painted with blessing, in the canon and in the ancient tradition. I, as a leading icon painter, try my best to find and show the picturesque expressiveness of the image from the point of view of my taste, knowledge and experience. A fusion of theological and pictorial knowledge. I am almost 60 years old and all these years I have spent on the study of theology and technology of various types of painting, and now I embody everything in the icon. Each of my icons is not a copy in a row, but an independent work of art. Artistic techniques and materials that I use in icon painting, the laws of color and composition, paraphernalia and symbolism - all this is a single set of instructions, an iconographic canon that does not arise from some artificial rules, but from the inner essence of the icon. When writing an icon to order, I use gold leaf, high quality wood, natural gesso, paints from the best world manufacturers. I combine old and modern painting techniques.»

The icons are in the Vatopedi and Khilandar monasteries, in the State Russian Museum, Athos, Greece, in monasteries and temples in Russia, and in private collections.
