Mikhailov Vyacheslav Savvich - Biography of the painter
Vyacheslav Mikhailov Savvich was born on September 3, 1945 in Stavropol. The creative biography of the artist began with a paradox. The desire to devote his life to painting three times could come to naught. Three attempts to enter the art school of the city of Rostov-on-Don ended in failure. The written refusal of the school "to no longer worry due to the complete lack of talent", of course, sounded insulting, which served as a kind of challenge to the young man. At the age of 26, having served in the army, Mikhailov dared to enter the Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He dared successfully, graduating from the institute in the class of painting, as well as postgraduate studies in the studio of Professor Evsey Moiseenko. In the late 1970s, Vyacheslav Mikhailov, Valery Lukka, graduates of the Academy of Arts, as well as the artist Felix Volosenkov, decided to move away from the academic tradition of painting and create a creative group called "Three Heroes" by critics and fans. To create the necessary artistic effect, innovators began to use relief colorful layers. Today Vyacheslav Mikhailov is one of the most famous and bought St. Petersburg artists. His paintings are an organic combination of form and meaning. «When working on portraits, I was naturally most interested in faces. They immediately show who is concerned about what, what they are. Only the face, as a physiological and genetic entity, as a concentrated expression of the character's psychological state, is of interest to me as an artist. The rest is all rubbish. I am sure that besides water and bread there is such an important concept as spirituality. It is especially important for a Russian person. True, I myself do not really like this word and do not fully understand what is behind it: whether it is an icon, or a temple, or the person himself. But I'm leaning more towards the latter. Today, the canvases of Vyacheslav Mikhailov have not lost their textural expressiveness, but they have changed the vector of study from religious metaphysics to the objective world. Exploring the possibilities of pigments and color combinations, the artist creates spectacular still lifes, urban landscapes and multi-figured compositions. His works still require concentration of perception, forcing one to look at the depressions, bubbles, humps and irregularities of each canvas for a long time.
