Painter: Bazanov Alexey Nikolaevich

«I studied classical painting at an art college, then I was educated at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. There I studied art in the techniques of mosaic, fresco, stained glass and oil painting. This knowledge helped me to create a large mosaic panel at the memorial in honor of the soldiers who died in World War II. I created murals on the walls of the gymnasium, hospital, dance hall and took part in regular exhibitions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaluga and China. Recently I live in the city of Kaluga and work in an art studio. In my paintings I want to capture the beauty of a quiet and peaceful life.»

The heroines of the paintings by Alexei Bazanov, as a rule, are located on a dark, almost black background, which makes us involuntarily recall the classical portraits of the Renaissance masters with faces-spots as if escaping from the darkness. The artist's enthusiasm for the classics was also reflected in the choice of subject for the canvas "Confrontation" from the Erarta collection. Often in his works, Bazanov depicts bathers - these works are made in a stylized classical manner with elements of historicism. Despite the fact that the artist's paintings demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the anatomical proportions of the human body, the figures remain flat, softly contrasting - like frescoes by old masters. In the spaces of the paintings there is no everyday life, everything random is discarded and the compositions acquire ideal harmony and purity. The structure of the paintings is subject to large rhythms - cosmic, existential. It seems that naked girls live in the spaces of Malevich's Black Square. His art combines the traditions of classical Western European painting and old Eastern engravings. There is something almost ritual in the movements and poses of the characters in the paintings. Light and shadow, lines and forms live in harmony with each other.
